Chatbots increase digital access to your audience.

Customer service is the key to a thriving business. But personnel is one of the most significant costs for employers. What if your customer service team didn’t require a 401K and time off?

Chatbots are with us every day.

You’ve probably used a digital assistant as recently as this morning. Siri, Cortana, and Alexa are the most well-known chatbots available but did you know you can build your own?

I have spearheaded efforts to utilize chatbot technology for client support.

I worked with a colleague in 2018 to build the first-ever Extension chatbot, VeggieBot, which assists home gardeners in their quest for help with vegetable gardening. The chatbot’s purpose is to save agents time by fielding common questions. I created the user flow for the bot and developed the logo and branding.

I also co-presented a session called BYOB: Build Your Own Bot at the NETC 2019 conference in West Virginia, where we walked attendees through creating their support bot using Snatchbot.

I’ve researched chatbots.

While chatbots are ubiquitous in our everyday lives, are they accessible to those with disabilities? I researched accessibility for social media and chatbots and wrote an annotated bibliography which shows more study is needed in this area.

I have also explored the history of chatbots in my essay From Eliza to Alexa: The Evolution of the Human-Chatbot Relationship.

We think that chatbots are the beginning of a new form of digital access, which centers on messaging.
